16歳のスピーチを和訳しました～

本日は、エコなニュース＜続編！＞について♪
先日環境活動家の16歳グレタ・トゥンベルクちゃんの記事をご紹介しましたが、
こちらがフルスピーチの動画になります。
グレタ・トゥンベルクちゃんの想いがより多くの日本人に伝わるように、
わたくし、日本語に訳しました。少し大変でしたが、グレタ・トゥンベルクちゃんの熱い想いを背に、わたしもがんばりました。

以下スピーチ。
Our house is on fire.
わたしたちの家が火事になっている。
I am here to say, our house is on fire.
わたしは、わたしたちの家が火事になっている、と伝えにきました。
According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), we are less than 12 years away from not being able to undo our mistakes.
IPCCによると、あと１２年でこの地球は取り返しがつかなくなるそうです。
In that time, unprecedented changes in all aspects of society need to have taken place, including a reduction of our CO2 emissions by at least 50%.
それまでにCO2の排出量を50％以下にすることを含めた前例にない大幅な変化が必要です。
And please note that those numbers do not include the aspect of equity, which is absolutely necessary to make the Paris agreement work on a global scale.
念頭に入れていただきたいのは、これらの数値には、資本の側面は含まれていません。パリ協定を世界規模で機能させることは絶対条件となります。
Nor does it include tipping points or feedback loops like the extremely powerful methane gas released from the thawing Arctic permafrost.
北極永久凍土の解凍により大量のメタンガスが排出される（*1）ことも前提としていません。
At places like Davos, people like to tell success stories.
ダボスのような場所では、人々は成功話をしたがります。
But their financial success has come with an unthinkable price tag.
しかし、かれらの経済成長はまったく想定もしなかった値札がついてきました。
And on climate change, we have to acknowledge we have failed.
気候変動に関しては、私たちは失敗したと認識しなければなりません。
All political movements in their present form have done so, and the media has failed to create broad public awareness.
政治家たちは失敗し、メディアも国民の意識を注視することができませんでした。
But Homo sapiens have not yet failed.
しかし、人類はまだ失敗していません。
Yes, we are failing, but there is still time to turn everything around.
わたしたちは、失敗していますがまだ可能性が残っています。
We can still fix this.
まだ修復が可能です。
We still have everything in our own hands.
まだ私たちの手中に可能性はあります。
But unless we recognise the overall failures of our current systems, we most probably don’t stand a chance.
しかし、早急に失敗しているということを認識しない限り手遅れになるでしょう。
We are facing a disaster of unspoken sufferings for enormous amounts of people.
わたしたちは大多数が苦しむ大規模な災害を目前にしているのです。
And now is not the time for speaking politely or focusing on what we can or cannot say.
今は奥ゆかしく話している場合でも、なにができ、なにができないかを考えている場合でもありません。
Now is the time to speak clearly.
何をすべきかを明確にすべきです。
Solving the climate crisis is the greatest and most complex challenge that Homo sapiens have ever faced.
気候変動問題を解決することは、人類が直面した問題の中で最も大きな課題です。
The main solution, however, is so simple that even a small child can understand it.
しかし、解決方法はとてもシンプルで、小さな子どもでも理解できます。
We have to stop our emissions of greenhouse gases.
わたしたちは温室効果ガスの排出を止めなければいけません。
Either we do that or we don’t.
わたしたちが「するか」「しないか」です。
You say nothing in life is black or white.
人生の中で白か黒で決められるものはない、といいます。
But that is a lie.
しかし、それは嘘です。
A very dangerous lie.
とても危険な嘘です。
Either we prevent 1.5C of warming or we don’t.
1.5℃の温暖化を阻止するか、しないか、です。
Either we avoid setting off that irreversible chain reaction beyond human control or we don’t.
気候変動を阻止するか、しないか、です。
Either we choose to go on as a civilisation or we don’t.
文明を築くか、築かないか、です。
That is as black or white as it gets.
これは、白か、黒か、です。
There are no grey areas when it comes to survival.
生命においては、グレイなど存在しません。
We all have a choice.
わたしたちは選択ができます。
We can create transformational action that will safeguard the living conditions for future generations.
わたしたちは変革的な行動を起こすことで将来の世代の生活環境を救うことができるのです。
Or we can continue with our business as usual and fail.
もしくは、今の経済活動を続け、地球が崩壊するか、です。
That is up to you and me.
これはわたしやあなたにかかっているのです。
Some say we should not engage in activism.
周りには、環境活動をしないほうがいい、と言う人もいます。
Instead we should leave everything to our politicians and just vote for a change instead.
それよりも、政治家にすべてを任せて選挙で変化を起こしてくれる人に投票すれば良い、と言います。
But what do we do when there is no political will?
もし、指示できる政治家がいなけｔればどうしますか？
What do we do when the nowhere in sights needed are nowhere in sight?
もし政治家が自分の願う政治をしてくれないならどうしたら良いのでしょうか？
Here in Davos – just like everywhere else – everyone is talking about money.
ここ、ダボスでは、他の場所と同じように、人々はお金のことを話します。
It seems money and growth are our only main concerns.
お金と経済成長だけが問題のようです。
And since the climate crisis has never once been treated as a crisis, people are simply not aware of the full consequences on our everyday life.
気候変動危機はまだ一度も起きていないため、人々は日々の生活がどのような結果を招いているのか認識していません。
People are not aware that there is such a thing as a carbon budget, and just how incredibly small that remaining carbon budget is.
人々はカーボンバジェット（炭素予算）など存在しないと思っています。そしてカーボンバジェット（炭素予算）の残りがどれだけ少ないかご存知でしょうか。
That needs to change today.
今日、変わらないといけません。
No other current challenge can match the importance of establishing a wide, public awareness and understanding of our rapidly disappearing carbon budget, that should and must become our new global currency and the very heart of our future and present economics.
カーボンバジェット（炭素予算）がどれだけ急速になくなっているかを皆が知るべきです。そして、これこそが世界的な通貨となるべきであり、未来や現在の経済の中心にあるべきです。
I'm striking from school to protest inaction on climate change – you should too
わたしは学校の気候変動に対する不作為に対し、学校ストライキをしています。
皆さんもぜひしてください。
We are at a time in history where everyone with any insight of the climate crisis that threatens our civilisation – and the entire biosphere – must speak out in clear language, no matter how uncomfortable and unprofitable that may be.
たとえどれだけ苦痛が生じようと、不利益が生じようと、現在のすべての生物が気候変動危機についてはっきりと話さなければいけない時にきています。
We must change almost everything in our current societies.
わたしたちは、現代社会のほぼすべてを変えなければいけません。
The bigger your carbon footprint, the bigger your moral duty.
CO２排出量が多ければ多いほど、あなたの義務は大きくなります。
The bigger your platform, the bigger your responsibility.
あなたの演台が大きければ大きいほど、あなたの責務を大きくなります。
Adults keep saying:
“We owe it to the young people to give them hope.”
「わたしたちは子どもたちに希望を与えることが必要なの」
と大人はよく言います。
But I don’t want your hope.
希望などいりません。
I don’t want you to be hopeful.
希望など持たないでほしい。
I want you to panic.
わたしは皆さんに慌ててほしい。
I want you to feel the fear I feel every day.
わたしが毎日感じているように恐怖を感じてほしい。
And then I want you to act.
そして、みなさんに行動してほしい。
I want you to act as you would in a crisis.
危機に陥っているときのように行動してほしいです。
I want you to act as if our house is on fire.
わたしたちの家が火事になっているときのように行動してほしいです。
Because it is.

環境問題に訴えかけるため、16歳の女の子がマイナス18℃の中でテントで寝たそうです。
うん。
できない理由をあげていても仕方ない。
できるところからやるだけ、だね。
ペットボトルを買わない。
ごみを出さない工夫をする。
レジ袋を断る。
まずは目の前のできることを確実にやっていきたいと思う。
